BACKGROUND
With the rapid development of economy and
huge energy consumption, the regional multiple air pollution
becomes more and more serious in China’s economic regions such
as Bohai (including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei )
region, the Yangtze River Delta (YRD, including Shanghai,
Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces) region and the Pearl River Delta
(PRD, including Guangdong and Hong Kong) region. How to resolve
the regional multiple air pollution and work out the effective
air quality management strategies are a great responsibility
that all the environmental decision makers and scientists
shoulder.
With the support of U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency and the Shanghai Environmental
Protection Bureau, a workshop about regional air quality
management is planned to be held to facilitate national and
international communication and cooperation on regional air
quality management research.
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
This workshop is aimed at providing an opportunity for the environmental policymakers to hear about successful experiences from abroad, for research scientists to get a wealth of information about the latest techniques and developments in regional air quality management through conference presentations and science communication. This workshop is also aimed at providing a forum for research scientists to deeply discuss the effective strategies to reduce China’s regional air pollution.
CONTENTS
- Urban and regional air quality
- Emission inventory of urban and regional air pollutants
- Simulation of urban and regional air quality
- Control technology of urban and regional air pollution
- Environmental benefit analysis of policies
TRAINING COURSES
To help Chinese scientists and policy-makers to become familiar with the latest air quality benefit assessment and management tools, we will invite experts from USEPA and China to provide a series of CMAQ/BenMAP/Emission Trading training courses during 2008.04.15-04.16.
